Good Friends, Jewelry Making, & Polo?

It was a good weekend filled with lots of different kinds of activities.  I am tired – but in a good way.  My weekends are not normally this full.

One of my best friends, Kara, was in the DC Area for work.  She lives in Seattle and I only get to see her about once a year – if I am lucky.  We both grew up in Wisconsin and met when we were 19 years old at U.W. Oshkosh. It is pretty crazy to me that we have been good friends for over 20 years, inspite of living on opposite sides of the country.

I saw her for less than 48 hours – but it was long enough to make some hand muddled blueberry mojitos and catch up on life.  Recipe here.

And for me to make her a special necklace and a coordinating pair of earrings.

The butterfly charm is handmade by Erin Prais-Hintz of Tesori Trovati.  Her Simple Truth charms are currently featured on numerous pages in the 2011 Buyers Guide issue of Beadwork Magazine.  Congrats Erin!  These fantastic charms make it very easy to make a beautiful piece of jewelry and make a statement with very little effort!

She loved it – she was a happy girl!

While Kara was at meetings on Friday I slipped away for a few hours to the International Gem & Jewelry Show.   I had a short list of things to get – I ended up with – well –  more than was on my list.  No big surpirse.

I am not able to go to Milwaukee to visit my folks and go to Bead & Button in a few weeks as I had originally planned.  I guess I felt entitled to buy a little more than usual.  Here is a pic of a few of my favorites I picked up.  Fiery laboradites, moonstones and aquamarines.  My photos don’t do the fire in the stones justice…

Saturday night after Kara had to fly home, my husband and I met some good friends at the season opener of Twilight Polo in The Plains, VA. I have never attended a polo match even though it is an easy drive from home.  The weather was beautiful and it was a neat way to picnic outdoors and enjoy the evening – before the humidity and the mosquitos set in for the season.

Sunday it was back to getting the house ready for my inlaws to come.  We go overboard.  Garage painting, new faucets, cleaning closets – stuff you don’t think of doing unless someone special is coming.  Ahhh house guests.  (We actually like to have them)!

Have a great week.

    Take Care…

  2. That drink looks amazing! BTW, recipes are perfect for my new DIY section (wink wink!)

  3. Oh Tracy! You have designed something very special there. I am so honored that you chose my ‘simple truths’ pendant to be a part of this for your very dear friend. That just makes me so very happy! I hope you will share it on the ‘simple truths’ flickr group! And your recipe looks awesome! There is no way that I would end up making them… it would only be me drinking them and that could get ugly! The polo match sounds like a lot of fun. Did you feel a bit ‘Pretty Woman’-ish when you were there? Thank you for sharing. You are my ‘something good’ today!

    Enjoy the day!
